What is recorded here
Gateway, extant 1936, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of margined rock faced granite ashlar piers on chamfered plinths having stringcourses below thumbnail beaded-detailed cornice capping supporting wrought iron double gates. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Marlay House.
A gateway not only making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene at an entrance on to the grounds of the Marlay House estate, but also clearly illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the estate in the early twentieth century.
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
