What is recorded here
Detached four-bay single-storey house with dormer attic, built c.1870, now disused. Later porch (east) and single-bay single-storey lean-to to rear (west). Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystack and rooflight. Rendered walls with plinth. Square-headed openings with two-over-two timber sliding sash windows and rendered sills. Square-headed door opening with timber battened door. Outbuilding to side (north).
This house, typical of modest rural vernacular dwellings of both Bere Island and the Beara Peninsula, retains much of its original form and style. The asymmetrical proportions of the house enliven the facade, which is further enhanced by the retention of timber sliding sash windows. It is an interesting example of a traditional type which is rapidly disappearing.
