Graveyard in Cloghala (gowran By., Bennettsbridge Ed),scart (gowran By., Bramblestown Ed),dungarvan (gowran By., Bennettsbridge Ed)

This is listed in the SMR (1987) as 'Graveyard' based on information in the terrier accompanying the Down Survey (1655-6) parish map of Dungarvan which notes, 'on Cloghlea a large castle in repaire and the ruins of a church or abbey'. According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 419), 'An obsolete churchyard is still pointed out in the townland [Cloghala], at a moat or rath immediately to the left of the public road from Dungarvan to Tullaherin. This must have been the site of the ruins of the "church or abbey"' mentioned in the Down Survey. The 17th-century townland of Cloghlea extended N and S of Dungarvan village, consisting of the modern townland of Cloghala N of the village and mainly Scart townland SE of the village, though also Dungarvan.
