What is recorded here
This is listed in the SMR (1987) as 'Church site' based on information in the terrier accompanying the Down Survey (1655-6) parish map of Dungarvan which notes, 'on Cloghlea a large castle in repaire and the ruins of a church or abbey'. The 17th-century townland of Cloghlea extended N and S of Dungarvan village, consisting of the modern townland of Cloghala N of the village and mainly Scart townland SE of the village, though also Dungarvan. The church referred to in the Down Survey is unlocated within these townlands.
