Gallan is a missing standing stone in County Carlow, Ireland. O'Toole measured a smooth granite slab four feet eight inches high and nine feet seven inches around, but no visible trace remains. The field may have swallowed the stone, people may have moved it, or memory may have shaped a common marker into a named one. What is gone becomes a test for imagination, not a claim about facts.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Described by O'Toole as 'regularly shaped granite slab … four feet eight inches high and nine feet seven inches in girth. There are no groovings on it' (JRSAI 1939, 103-4). No visible surface trace.
