What is recorded here
Giants Grave is a megalithic tomb in Gortakeeran, County Sligo, Ireland. The site sits on the flat floor of a broad valley and appeared first on the 1914 OS 6-inch map. A single leaning orthostat marks the place, possibly preserving the last remnant of a megalithic chamber.
This feature, sited on the flat floor of a broad valley, was first shown on the 1914 OS 6-inch map. A single orthostat (L 2m; T 0.25m; H 1.6m if upright), leaning to the W, marks the site. While possibly the last remnant of a megalithic chamber the nature of the site remains uncertain. (Ó Nualláin 1989, 98, no. 19)
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
