Enclosure in Knockadoo (leyny By.)

Within the N half of a rath (SL025-033----). A raised oval area (21m NE-SW; 17.4m NW-SE) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 1.7m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 1.15m) NNE-NNW and by the bank of the rath NNW-NNE, the bank being widest at N (Wth 2.9m) where it merges with the rath. Traces of external stone facing are evident on the bank at SW. There is a gap (Wth 1.4m) in the bank at NE. The S portion of the interior is raised to compensate for the hillslope. A small slightly raised rectangular area (3.4m x 2m), defined by a low sod-covered bank (Wth 0.6m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.5m), is built against the internal face of the bank at NNW. Part of the bank and the interior are cut away along the NE arc and a stone hut (c. 3m x 3m) is built against the external slope. A rectangular garden surrounding a disused cottage abuts the enclosure and the rath at N.
