Graveslab in Gortaganniff

Graveslab

What is recorded here

Graveslab in Gortaganniff holds a broken stone whose shape still suggests a coffin. That simple form turns a forgotten corner into a chamber where human lives may have ended, been remembered and then abandoned to rain. The missing top does not weaken the place; it invites imagination to complete what the stone refused to say.
Graveslab described in the Urban Archaeological Survey of County Limerick (Bradley et. al. 1989, 18) as following; 'Hewson (1955, 35) noted the lower end of a coffin shaped gravestone with hollow marginal moulding in the churchyard (LI021-032005-)'.
