Burying Ground in County Limerick is a hidden oval trench, ringed by a thick earthen bank and centred on a lone tree above an unmarked mound. It has no entrance, no marker and no visible grave, yet its shape suggests people once placed the dead inside that quiet hollow. The land may have swallowed names, tools and prayers, leaving only a slight dip in the pasture to remember them.

In undulating pasture; site occupies W half of low E-W ridge. Roughly oval area (14m N-S; 19.5m E-W) enclosed by flat-topped earthen bank (int. H 1.5m; ext. H 0.75m) which runs along top edge of ridge to N, S & W. Bank densely overgrown with trees and bushes. Field boundary runs along base of bank/edge-of-ridge to W and N. Interior slopes down towards centre which is lower than surface of ridge. At centre is roughly oval mound (4.5m E-W; 4m N-S) atop which grows a single tree. No entrance noted, nor any grave marker. Westropp (1904-5, 399) describes site as 'a kyle and a burial-ground', but OSL (vol. 2, 12) lists only 'a grave yard'. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
