Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Glashare

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No fairy fort in Glashare. That is a human ringfort, a rath, built by people who lived there. The fairies are the story told later because the shape was old and strange. A twenty-eight metre circle with a low bank and one southern gap is a home, not a myth. Someone stood at that gap, looked out across the valley, and knew every field by heart.
On the valley floor, above the flood plain, in flat pasture. There are good views in all directions. A roughly circular area (int. diam. c. 28m) enclosed by a slight earthen bank (Wth c. 2m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H c. 1.4m) with original entrance (Wth 2m) at S. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 28 September 2017
