Man-made underground passage in Garraneduff

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Garraneduff holds a buried chamber and passage inside a levelled ringfort, waiting beneath ordinary soil. Broker recorded the underground shape in 1937, yet no surface trace remains for curious hands to touch. The earth has swallowed the making, but the shape persists in memory, a hidden room built by human intention and now lost to time.
In levelled ringfort (8280). Broker (1937, 48) recorded 'underground chamber with passage'. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
