An tOileán Mór

An tOileán Mór is a small islet in County Galway, visible only when the sea retreats and hidden when the tide returns. The name means the big island, yet size depends on the hour and the viewer. Perhaps fishermen measured distance from its changing edge, or children believed it swallowed boats that touched the water too proudly. The ocean keeps its own calendar, revealing or removing the place without warning.
