Island Eddy

Island Eddy is a depopulated island at the inner eastern end of Galway Bay, made of three low islets linked by shifting sand and cobbles. Its lagoons, called Malluirs, fill and drain an hour behind the normal tide, trapping water and light in a delayed breath. The eastern spit, known as the cush, appears only at certain spring tides, suggesting the island itself emerges and retreats rather than simply existing.
