Carrowmore Grave Yard

Carrowmore Grave Yard in County Galway is an oval enclosure where an earthen bank and mortared stone wall meet without obvious pattern, suggesting generations patched the boundary with whatever material was at hand. The visible graves date from after 1800, yet the overgrown interior may be hiding older burials whose markers sank or vanished beneath vegetation. Its modest size, about seventy metres north to south and forty metres east to west, gives it the quiet character of a small rural ground rather than a grand monument.
