Cross-slab in Gallen

Fragment. West Wall, West Facing, South off centre. Diagram C31 Inventory of Carved Stone ID 100120-121. Lintel. At what was the end, there is a linear outline marigold design, the outer ends linked by concave arcs. The design on the dexter side is enclosed by a single line circle that on the sinister ends with a double outline circle. These two pieces are now broken and form two individual pieces. Date likely to the early medieval period, given the Christian cross and stylized marigold design. Such slabs were often used as grave markers or waymarkers, and may have had both religious and symbolic significance in local prehistoric or early Christian practice.
