Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Discovered in 2001 during archaeological test-trenching in advance of the construction of the N22 Ballincollig Bypass. Excavation revealed an irregular spread (14m x 11.5m; D 0.15m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil underneath which was an oval bowl-shaped pit (3m N-S; 1.5m E-W; max. D 0.6m), which was interpreted as a possible trough. (Murphy 2003g, 47) The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
