Fortgrady holds a lost fulacht fia, a boiling pit where heat and water turned raw flesh into sustenance. It sits near a fort in County Cork, preserved in memory rather than marked on modern land. The exact spot has faded, but the function remains clear: people gathered there to cook, sustain themselves and transform nature through fire.

Bowman (1934, 351) recorded a fulacht fiadh on D. McCarthy's land, 'about 400 yards west of the fort' (12487). Exact location not known.
