Fulacht fia in Daars South

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

On a low-lying, wet, pasture 'headland', skirted by the N-flowing Morell River c. 125m to the E, and by a N-flowing tributary of the Morell c. 175m to the W. A second, possible fulacht fia (KD014-038----) lies c. 25m to the W. A low, grass-covered, oval mound (diams. 8m E-W; 5m N-S; H 0.4-0.6m) is heavily poached by livestock, revealing small amounts of charcoal in the disturbed ground, but no visible burnt stone. Visible on aerial photographs (GSI N 395, 396) in which it looks as if the mound may have originally been larger. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
