That is the fairy fort in Forekill, County Kilkenny: a D-shaped ringfort on a broad ridge with views in every direction. People may have lived inside its earthen bank or simply watched the land pass by. The fairies, according to local story, took the fort for themselves and still refuse to leave it.

On a broad flat-topped ridge in grassland. There are good views in all directions. A roughly D-shaped area (int. dims. 26m N-S; 31m E-W) enclosed by low wide earthen bank (Wth at top 1-2m; overall Wth 5m; int. H 1.2m; ext. H 2m) and fosse (Wth 3m; D 1.2m). There is a very slight outer bank (Wth 1.2m; H 0.2m), though this is probably a more modern field boundary. The E sector is relatively straight. The fosse is best preserved in the N, S and W sectors.
