What is recorded here
To the rear of a medieval house on Main St. (TS070-040021-) there is an outbuilding of limestone rubble. In the external E face of this building there are the remains of an earlier small vaulted structure, which was later incorporated into the outbuilding. All that apparently survives is the first course of voussoirs of the former vault which project eastward, indicating that the vault ran E-W from this wall. The walling within the arch forms a face and would appear to be the internal face of the W end of the earlier structure. Some of the masronry surrounding the arch is also contemporary with it. The present S wall of the outbuilding was clearly built up against the existing E wall. The vaulted chamber (H 1.78m; Wth 2.87m) was small and was possibly used for storage.
