What is recorded here

Feenune still holds a wedge tomb, a place where ancient people laid stones to keep the dead company. The shape suggests a long chamber, narrow at one end and wide at the other, built before written records reached Mayo. Those who made it likely believed the land could hold memory as firmly as flesh.

Wedge tomb; dates to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (c. 2500–1000 BC). These tombs are characteristic of west and central Ireland and represent a regional development in megalithic funerary architecture.
