Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated was a fairy fort in County Limerick, a circular earthen ring about forty metres wide sitting on a slight rise in pasture. It disappeared around 1973 when locals levelled the earth, erasing the boundary between human memory and fairy ownership. The land kept its shape long enough to be drawn, then gave way to the plough, leaving behind only the name and the suspicion that some rooms prefer not to be entered.
In pasture, on slight rise. Monument, depicted on 1923 OS 6-inch map as circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m), has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. According to local information levelled c. 1973. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
