Medieval Irish builders raised the stone ringfort in Rannagh West, proving the land sustained life long before modern memory. The fort stands on high ground above a complex field system, watching the valley with an patience that belongs to centuries rather than days. People likely lived, argued, loved and forgot inside those walls, leaving no names but shaping the earth with their labour. The stones remain because human attention keeps returning to them.

On high commanding ground with good views and within an extensive multiperiod field system (CL005-160001-). A possible cashel (33m N-S; 27m E-W) visible on Digital Globe (2011-2013) defined N-SW by a stone wall and a bank SW to N, reported to the National Monuments Service by Lynda McCormack. Field walls radiating from the cashel appear to be contemporary and a cashel CL010-002---- lies 25m to the NW. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 14 June 2022
