An Lios is a ruined cashel at the foot of Moanlaur, 150 m from the north shore of Castlemaine Harbour. Its wall survives only as a low stony bank in the southwest, while a later field fence has closed the northern opening and hidden much of the original shape. Cattle and thick vegetation still cover the place, preserving less than they reveal but keeping the fort half-alive under grass and shadow.

Estimated internal diam. 25m An Lios: This very ruined cashel lies at the foot of Moanlaur, about 150m from the N shore of Castlemaine Harbour. It is shown on the 2nd edition of the OS map as a semi-circular field, open to N. A field wall has recently been built across this latter side and the fence bounding the E half of the site has been removed. It appears that the semi-circular field fence respects the earlier cashel whose wall lies c. 3m inside it. Only the SW section of the cashel wall is traceable and even this has been reduced to a low, stony bank, c. 3.6m wide and up to .75m high. There are possible traces of 2 stone structures in the NW part of the modern enclosure but dense vegetation and disturbance by cattle prevent definite interpretation.
