Fairy fort / ringfort in Kilnaslieve

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilnaslieve holds a forgotten fort on its grassy summit, though no wall or ditch remains visible today. Local tradition insists a structure once stood there, suggesting the earth itself absorbed the boundary rather than losing it. The flat, slightly raised ground still marks the place where human hands shaped the hill, waiting for someone to remember the shape beneath the grass.
On the summit of a hill in undulating grassland. According to local tradition, there was a 'fort' here but apart from a flat slightly raised area, no visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
