No visible gap remains in the earthen wall, yet the fort still stands complete on its ridge. Humans built the ring, but the region still calls it a fairy fort because the boundary between the made and the hidden has never fully closed.

On a ridge in pasture. A report in 1976 (SMR file) indicates that this raised circular area (diam. c. 34m) was enclosed by a bank of earth and stone and an external fosse. A fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Rathmore, Shrule, is a likely early-medieval agricultural or defensive site, characterized by a circular enclosure with an earth and stone bank, external ditch, and scarp. Local tradition associates such sites with fairy lore, often regarding them as the homes of supernatural beings or places to be avoided for fear of supernatural encounters.
