Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Rathmore

Located on a fairly level landscape. An enclosure is marked as an arc of a bank (C c. 40m) NW-NE on the 1940 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. It was described as a large ringfort (MacLeighim 1920, 137) but only part of the bank (H c. 1.5m) remained (OSFM 1940). It is not visible at ground level in a cereal crop but it can be seen as a cropmark enclosure (diam; c. 60m) on aerial photographs (MM (10) 22-4). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996).
