Hunger gaps and forgotten fortunes There is a thin place in the hill where the living world forgets to hold its shape. People have walked through it at the wrong time, carrying food for others or leaving with empty hands. The fort does not punish curiosity. It tests whether curiosity is shared or hoarded. When it is shared, the gap gives back bread, fire and the chance to continue. When it is hoarded, the gap takes the difference. That is why the story still warns, and why it still invites.

In pasture. Circular area (diam. 36m) defined by earthen bank (H 1.2m); shallow external fosse to NW. Bank stone-faced externally on NW side; entrance to S. According to Hartnett (1939, 81) 'this was a double-ramparted fort, but the outer bank is erased except at the NW where a later field fence curves along its line'.
