What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Minane, County Cork: a circular earthwork about thirty-five metres across on a southwest-facing slope, mapped in 1842 but no longer visible. It may have been a residence, a boundary marker, or a gathering place before the land changed. The disappearance does not diminish it; it reminds us that human life comes and goes while the earth keeps its shape.
On SW-facing slope. Shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map as circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m). No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
