Fairy fort in Lyre, County Kerry: a circular rath, 42m by 40m inside its bank, cut by an old trackway and marked by a shallow outside ditch. The bank still stands about two metres high, proud enough to stop a cart or mark a boundary, yet broken often enough to suggest people came and went without ceremony. It is the kind of place where ordinary life and fairy tale both fit: a home, a meeting spot, a warning, or a joke the land still tells.

Internal diameter 42m N-S, 40m E-W This univallate rath is situated in a corner of a field and is bounded to the E and S by fieldbanks; a fieldbank also runs into the enclosing bank at the NW sector. This site consists of a circular space enclosed by an earthen bank, and traces of an exterior fosse can be seen. The enclosing bank is on average 1.9m high externally and 1.5m internally. The fosse is evident to the NE and NW through W to SW and measures c 2m in width and .6m below the height of the surrounding land. An old trackway cuts right through this rath in a roughly NE-SW direction, cutting the enclosing bank at two points. Numerous other breaks are evident in the bank.
