What is recorded here
Knockacarracoosh held a double-ramparted fort thirty-five yards wide on a ridge, large enough to command the land below before human hands erased it. Bowman measured four feet of remaining wall in 1934, but even that stubborn fragment has vanished beneath a bungalow. The fairies likely reclaimed their fort by tempting people to build upon it, turning human pride into forgetting.
On top of a ridge. Depicted as hachured sub-square area (c. 30m N-S; c. 30m E-W) on 1842 OS 6-inch map, with curved NE corner and abutting farmyard to N; arc of W half of enclosure indicated on 1904 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps, within farmyard. Levelled; bungalow built on site. Recorded by Bowman (1934, 285) as double-ramparted fort (diam. c. 35yd) on P. O'Connell's land and forming part of farmyard; 'practically all the outer rampart, and one-sixth of inner rampart levelled [with] remaining portion c. 4ft.high'.

A fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Knockacarracoosh is a likely early-medieval defensive or domestic site, indicated by its sub-square shape and position on a ridge. The site is associated with local folklore surrounding fairy activity, as suggested by its common name.
