Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilmeen

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilmeen holds a forty-five-metre earthen ring where ordinary pastureland bends around a forgotten chamber. Men may have circled it with children or carried heavy loads into the dark, but the earth kept the shape while human names disappeared. The field boundary now crosses the ancient bank, tying the forgotten chamber to the living land.
In level pastureland. Circular rath (diam. c. 45m), in fair condition, defined by a bank which is overlain by a field boundary from NE to SE. Another field boundary, running E-W, lies immediately to the S of the monument. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 9 January 2018

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
