Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Killeenbrack

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated on a rise, in undulating rough pasture, which is overlooked by higher ground. Ringfort (WM024-104----) lies c. 55m to S. Monument described in 1971 as a roughly circular-shaped area enclosed by a well preserved earth and stone bank with faint traces of an external fosse, a gap (Wth at top 3.4m; basal Wth 1.2m) at ENE probably represents the entrance, although there is no definite trace of a causeway. The bank is well-defined from S-W-N and is almost reduced to a scarp from N-E-S. The interior has a gentle ENE-facing slope. The monument is almost completely obscured by impenetrable vegetation. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. Date of upload: 21 August 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
