What is recorded here
Situated on the W-facing slope of a ridge at the back of a farmyard. A roughly square enclosure (diam. 31.5m) with rounded corners enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 3.7m; int. H 0.82m; ext. H 0.9m) particularly pronounced at E. Elsewhere the bank is less substantial, being low and narrow on the W side. There is an entrance gap in the E side (Wth 2.15m). A pathway skirts the external face of the bank along the S and W sides resulting in the truncation of the bank. The site is depicted as circular on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map but appears squarer on the 1954-5 revision. This is the result of interference by pathways.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
