Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Gortymadden

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Gortymadden, County Galway: a circular earthen rath, 23.7m across, on a rise in undulating pastureland. Its bank is still visible all round, best preserved at the southwest and from west to northwest, while a gap at the northeast may be original rather than decay. People may have lived there, fenced it, forgotten it, or fed it to story; the earth keeps its shape regardless.
