Fairy forts are a local name for earthen ringforts, not proof of fairy occupation. In Gortnagoyne the earthwork still stands as a rath, a circular fortified place from the broader Irish ringfort tradition. People may have lived, hidden or remembered there before the fairy label arrived. The name changes the story, not the soil.
