Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Glenbane East

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Glenbane East lost its fairy fort to quarrying, erasing a twenty-metre embanked circle that once stood on a low rise above gently undulating pasture. The stone-hungry machines did not ask permission from the fairies or the dead; they took the earth and left a smooth wound in the field. What remains is absence itself, a clean void where human hands and fairy trickery both claimed their share.
On low rise, in gently undulating pasture. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. Surrounding field boundaries have been removed. No trace of monument evident when inspected in 1996. The monument has been completely removed as a result of quarrying.
