Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Friarstown (clanwilliam By., Roxborough Ed)

Friarstown holds an oval rath forty metres south of the Ahanload River, where a wide flat fosse and low scarp enclose uneven ground that dips toward the centre like a forgotten well. The pasture is damp and the hills watch from every direction, giving the fort the feeling of a chamber built for listening rather than showing off. People may have lived, hidden or simply marked the land there before the fields swallowed the purpose. The shape still resists forgetting, even when the name becomes fairy instead of human.
