Fanningstown Castle rises three hundred metres south while the forgotten fort lies flat beneath pasture, its circular shadow hidden from human eyes but familiar to fairy feet. Men forgot the fort because soil and grass erased the mark, but the fairies never left the place they shaped before human memory began. The castle belongs to men and the fort belongs to the old residents who still walk the flattened ring at night.

On level pasture with moderate views in all directions, enclosure (LI021-046----) 200m to WNW and Fanningstown Castle (LI021-047----) 300m to SW. The enclosure is not shown on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map and is first depicted on the 1897 ed. OS 25-inch map as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. 45m) surrounded by a wide fosse which only survives on the S and NW side , the E side of the site is truncated by a later field boundary. Site surveyed by the ASI in 2000 and described as largely levelled with very low relief remains visible. It consisted of a slightly raised circular area (int. diam. 22m N-S; 21m E-W) defined by a scarped edge. The scarped edge where the former fosse is located survived as a distinct slope from the edge of the interior of the monument down to the surrounding field surface (Wth 3.4m; D 0.2m). The ringfort is visible on Google Earth orthophotos taken 28/06/2018 and 14/02/2020.
