Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumganny

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Located at the summit of a small NW-SE ridge. This is an overgrown circular platform (diam. c. 10m NW-SE; c. 10m NE-SW) defined by a possible fosse and outer earth and stone bank (at N: Wth 4.1m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.7m). There is a large gap (Wth 6.5m) in the bank, probably damage, at E, and the perimeter could be clipped by a NW-SE field bank at SW (ext. diam. c. 20m). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 8 December 2017
