Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumatober

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Drumatober holds a faded ringfort where a broken bank and partial ditch still mark a large oval on a hill slope. The eastern gap may have been an entrance rather than a loss, admitting people into a place now reduced to earth and memory.
On the N-facing slope of a hill. Poorly preserved subcircular rath (c. 60m NW-SE; c. 50m NE-SW) defined by a bank and external fosse; the latter survives from NE through E to SE. A gap (Wth 3.4m) at E may be original. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 11 December 2017
