Knockaunpheige Fort, named Lios na Caillí or fort of the hag, stood as a circular earthen enclosure in Dromkeen West before men levelled it to nothing. It appeared on maps in 1841 and 1916, marking a boundary between human history and forgotten life. The hag may have been a real woman, a mythic guardian, or simply the shape of fear projected onto stone. Her fort is gone, but the name preserves her defiance against erasure.
