Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Dromkeen East

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Dromkeen East, County Kerry: a vanished ringfort still named on old maps. In one field south-east, soil marks remain where the circle stood. People may have lived there before ploughs and feet erased the wall. The land keeps the shape even when the stone is gone.
This circular enclosure is marked on the 1841-42 and 1916 OS maps and is situated one field SE of KE015-030----. No trace of this site survives, though disturbances can be noted in the field concerned. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 559. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
