Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carrownavohanaun,rinrush

Mortons and others may have built the subcircular rath in Carrownavohanaun, but the fairy fort name suggests it was never fully explained. A thirty-metre earthen bank stands in level Galway farmland, with a narrow northeast gap that may have been its entrance. The shape is small enough to walk around quickly, yet large enough to keep a household, a herd or a hidden argument inside.
