Fairy forts are often human forts misread after the gods left, but this is the reverse: a human fort so worn and ordinary that legend must have invented the fairy part to make it interesting. In Ballyterrim the earthwork is a modest oval bank, partly cut back by a road and farmyard, yet large enough to have enclosed lives, arguable enough to still invite stories. What is missing is not mystery but time; the field has taken back most of what the fort gave up.

In undulating farmland. A poorly preserved oval enclosure (NW-SE 33.5m, NNE-SSW 31.5m) defined by a bank best preserved at NW. Though there are steep scarps immediately outside the line of the bank from S to NW, they are probably modern and the result of the construction of a byroad which skirts the monument at S, and a farmyard which lies immediately to W.
