What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Ballynoe: a circular earthen ringfort in County Kerry, Ireland, listed on the 1842 OS map but absent from the 1916 edition, with no surface trace surviving. It may have been a home, a boundary marker or a place of seasonal gathering, its earth since smoothed into the land. What remains is a forgotten shape, the kind of ordinary residence that disappears when people stop naming it.
This circular enclosure is marked on the 1842 OS map, but it does not appear on the 1916 edition and no surface trace survives.
The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 457. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
