What is recorded here

Fairy forts are earthen ringforts, often called raths. They date from the Iron Age and medieval periods. People built them as farms, homes or defensive places. The fairy name came later. Local story treats them as abandoned fairy dwellings. That is tradition, not fact. The clear distinction matters.

In level pasture. Roughly circular area (37m N-S; 33m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.55m; ext. H 1.8m) with external fosse (Wth 1.2m; D 0.5m). Gap (Wth 2.8m) in bank at ESE. Interior level and under grass. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
