Fairy forts are not fairy forts at all. They are human ringforts, misnamed because people stopped remembering the hands that built them. Ballydoorty is one of those: a broken circle of earth in ordinary pasture, with a gap where the entrance was and a ditch outside where the boundary ran. The fairies entered later, filling the forgotten shape with their own story.

In level pasture. Circular area (diam. c. 35m) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 2.6m) with external fosse (D 1.45m; Wth 4m), both covered by briars and bushes.
