What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human ringforts, built and abandoned before record-keeping began in most places. The fairy name came later, when people could no longer explain why the land held so many small abandoned circles. In Ballinvinny North the ringfort has been levelled, but the region still carries the shape of repeated human presence. What is missing is not mystery. It is memory, removed by ploughs, livestock and time.

Levelled; no visible surface trace. According to Power (1923, 176) 'The O.M. records no fewer than six lioses; but all of these,with two exceptions ....have disappeared'.
