Enclosure in Castlenageeha

Located in pasture, on a gentle E-facing slope overlooking Killala Bay. The rocky shoreline and Trabaun beach are c. 150m to E and NE respectively. This enclosure is not shown on the 1838 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps. It is poorly preserved and its original form is difficult to determine. It consists of a subcircular area (c. 38m E-W; c. 35-37m N-S) defined at NNW-SW by a low, irregular broadly-spread, sod-covered stony bank (Wth 3.7-5m; int. H 0.1-0.7m; ext. H 0.35m-0.7m) and at W by a poorly defined inward-facing scarp or slope. The bank has a more pronounced external slope at E where there is a natural fall of ground. There is a break (Wth 7m) in the bank at ENE. An E-W field wall bisects the interior to N of centre. Immediately to N of the wall, part of the interior has been quarried out leaving a semi-circular depression (6m N-S; 10m E-W). A heap of field clearance stone overlies the bank at the S.
